Stump Removal in Macon
Once a tree is down, the stump that's left can be a tripping hazard, a sprout farm, a future termite buffet, or just an eyesore. We pull stumps two ways: full extraction (removing the stump and as much of the root mass as practical) or stump grinding (chipping the stump down to mulch below grade).
Extraction vs. grinding — which one do you need?
Both work, but they're best for different situations:
- Choose extraction if you'll be pouring a slab, building a foundation, or planting a new tree in the same spot.
- Choose grinding if you just want the stump gone for landscaping reasons — it's faster, cheaper, and less disruptive to surrounding plants and lawn.
What grinding looks like
We bring a self-propelled grinder to the site, set up tarps to contain the chips, and grind the stump roughly 6–12 inches below grade — usually deep enough that you can topsoil the spot and re-seed grass right over it. The chips can be hauled off, used as mulch on the property, or left in place as fill.
Stumps and your lawn
Most Macon-area lawns recover from stump grinding within a single growing season. We rake out as much of the chip pile as you'd like, top-dress with soil if you want, and leave the area ready for seed or sod.
Common questions
How long does stump grinding take?
A typical residential stump takes 30–90 minutes from arrival to cleanup. Big oaks or pecans can take longer.
Will the chips be left behind?
Your call. We can haul them, leave them in place as mulch, or spread them in a bed.
Will the roots keep growing?
Without the trunk to feed them, severed roots stop growing and break down naturally over a couple of seasons.
